End of life care

Dignified, tailored end of life care, right in your own home

Even with the best care, attention, and treatment, it may become clear in the later stages of a terminal illness that your loved one is nearing the end of their life. Many of us would prefer to die peacefully, with dignity, and in a comfortable environment. People have the right to choose where they wish to spend the last days of their lives and for many people this will be to remain at home in familiar surroundings. You or a loved one can achieve this by receiving end-of-life care at home, where you feel safest and most at ease. Advantage Care provides essential domiciliary care and support to enable you and your family to make this choice.

We can design an end of life care plan with you and, where you wish it, your family or friends. Our domiciliary care service will then be tailored to meet your specific needs and preferences. We value and respect each person’s spirituality and their right to dignified care at this time of their lives. Our team will work with health professionals and other people who are involved in your care and support to manage your symptoms, maintain your dignity and keep you as comfortable as possible and will be with you every step of the way. A fully trained carer can offer regular support with many tasks to make you or a loved one feel comfortable and safe during what can be a distressing time. This includes:

  • Choices and priorities of our customer are at the centre of Advantage Care planning and delivery.
  • Open and sensitive communication – our customer, families and friends are well informed about the range of options and resources available to them to be involved with care planning.
  • Care is delivered in a sensitive, person-centred way, taking account of circumstances, wishes and priorities of the customer, family and friends.
  • Our care assistants are fully trained in end of life care and are supported to develop further knowledge and skills.
  • Providing comfort for common symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion about time, place, identity of loved ones, loss of appetite, loss of bladder control etc.
  • Providing emotional comfort by keeping them company, honoring their wishes, allowing them to reminisce and discuss about issues that concern them.

Many choices exist for end-of-life care at home. The most important thing is that a care plan is developed specifically for you or your loved one’s requirements, with a professional carer with whom you feel most at ease.

When you contact our team, a homecare specialist will walk you through your family’s options and even set up a face-to-face appointment with your local Advantage care manager, an expert in end-of-life care, so you can learn more.
